The other is that she’s staying in a halfway house for female felons which adds its own suspense to the story. She’s also healing from brain surgery due to a head injury sustained during her escape.īeth’s recovery and the fall-out from her trauma is one part of the story. Beth doesn’t remember much about her captivity, but details start to come back as her memory is triggered. Luckily, she writes under a pen name so no one in Alaska knows who she is. The main character, Beth Rivers, is a best-selling author from Missouri who’s running away from the terror of being kidnapped. It’s the first in a new series by Shelton who is a prolific writer with multiple series to her name. Earlier this month, I reviewed Thin Ice by Paige Shelton for Criminal Element.
